Executive members of the Guyana Football Association (GFA) have labeled 2009 as very successful and are confident that with the same level, of support and commitment demonstrated by its stakeholders during the past year, they will facilitate greater achievements in the Association for 2010.
Secretary of the GFA, Marlan Cole made this pronouncement in a press release dispatched to this newspaper. He said that he is extremely heartened by the high level of support rendered by corporate Guyana. He also feels that it was this support that was responsible for the many successes of the Association.
Cole singled out several corporate entities including Banks DIH Limited, GT&T, Western Union, Courts Guyana Ltd, DeSinco Trading, Guyana Beverages Inc, Dr. R. Williams, Bryden and Fernandes Ltd. and Beepat’s Limited. Cole also commended the media fraternity as well as members of the football community for their input.
He affirmed that such input was responsible for the many tournaments that the GFA was able to run off over the year. “The GFF, and by extension the nation, could not have enjoyed the success it achieved for the preceding year without the input of corporate Guyana,” said Cole.
He cited some of these achievements saying that the clubs affiliated to the GFA had successfully participated in the inaugural National League championships, sealing off the first three podium spots in that competition. Mr. Cole also lauded the efforts of GFA affiliated teams for their achievement of copping the first three top prizes in the Mackeson Sponsored Sweet 16 KO and the Namilco Football Festival. Affiliated clubs to the GFA rounded off the year on a highly successful note, securing the top four places in the 20th edition of the Kashif and Shanghai Football Tournament.
“I wish to extend heartiest congratulations to the respective clubs and individuals whose efforts over the year have made a significant impact on the performances of the teams,” said Cole.
He reminded all of the stakeholders of their importance towards the successful staging of football activity. “Your input remains essential for the continued development and participation of Association football.” He urged the affiliates to continue working assiduously in order to achieve higher goals in 2010.
