CWIMA, government ministers advance planning for Masters World Cup in Guyana
– 16 nations to compete in October 17 – November 1 tournament
GEORGETOWN, Guyana – The Cricket West Indies Masters Association (CWIMA) yesterday met with the Hon. Charles Ramson, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, and the Hon. Steven Jacobs at the Ministry’s boardroom to review preparations for the upcoming Masters World Cup, scheduled to be held in Guyana from October 17 to November 1.
CWIMA, who was represented by its Chairman, Mr. Raj Singh, and the association’s Finance Convenor Mr. Ramdeo Kumar, provided the Ministers with a comprehensive update on the work completed to date and outlined the critical next steps required to deliver a world-class tournament featuring 16 participating countries.

Key areas covered during the briefing included:
- Preparation and readiness of cricket grounds
- Television broadcast and live streaming arrangements
- Accommodation and hotel logistics
- Transportation and security planning
- Recruitment of match referees, umpires, venue managers and liaison officers
- Mobilisation of volunteers, event staff and catering services
“We have made substantial progress across all operational areas, but the scale of this event requires seamless collaboration with the Government and our local partners,” Mr. Singh said. “Today’s meeting allowed us to align on the remaining priorities so that Guyana can showcase its renowned hospitality and passion for cricket on a global stage.”
Minister Ramson commended CWIMA for its detailed planning and reaffirmed the government’s full support. “This Masters World Cup is a significant opportunity for Guyana — to boost sports tourism, create economic activity, and demonstrate our capacity to host major international events. The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport stands ready to ensure every logistical requirement is met.”
Minister Jacobs underscored the importance of robust broadcasting and security frameworks, noting that the tournament’s global audience will place Guyana in the international spotlight. “We are working closely with CWIMA to guarantee that both the physical and digital infrastructure are in place, so that fans everywhere can enjoy a safe, high-quality experience,” he said.
The Masters World Cup will bring together veteran cricketers from 16 nations for two weeks of competitive cricket, with matches to be staged at venues across Guyana. Further announcements regarding fixtures, participating teams and ticket availability will be made in the coming weeks.
During the visit Raj Singh took the opportunity to present World Cup Shirts & Caps to the Ministers in recognition of their continued support of masters’ cricket over the years.
