Physically Challenged rider Walter Grant-Stuart, the oldest rider to finish the event 62 year-old Monty Parris and the youngest rider from Region Six, Neil Reece were all rewarded for their respective performances during the grueling 226 mile (365KM) race which saw the competitors competing in the three Counties, Berbice, Demerara and Essequibo.
Minister of Culture Youth and Sport Dr. Frank Anthony speaking briefly before the presentation to Stuart said that he had made a promise to gave him a special award at last year’s presentation but was doing so now.
Parris, who has been an active rider ever since the 1950’s riding with the likes of current National Coach Hassan Mohamed and the Jardine brothers among others, was the oldest cyclist to complete all five stages and was duly recognised for such an outstanding ride.
16 year-old Reece, who has been excelling on the local scene, also completed the event and was duly honored for his performance. The three riders each received US $100.
