Barbadian Female Cricket Coach Richard Clarke (extreme left) poses with Sports Organiser Allister Munroe (back row second left) and junior windball cricketers last Thursday.
National Women’s Cricket Coach of Barbados Richard Clarke paid a visit to the Guyana Teachers Union ground on Thursday where he conducted a training session with the junior windball team currently preparing to tour Trinidad and Tobago.
Clarke, who is a WICB accredited Level II coach was seen taking the junior cricketers through their paces, teaching them how to play a proper forward defensive shot, how to get your feet as close as possible to the ball among other related skills on how to become a good cricketer.
Armed with a wealth of experience which according to him total in excess of 20 years, Clarke in an invited comment with Kaieteur Sport said that his presence was to help develop and improve the skills of the participants.
“I’m more or less trying to develop the kids’ skills, I could see that the enthusiasm and the interest are there,” he mentioned. He said quite a few of them have the ability to time the ball properly, adding that it is critically important because it is the difference between success and failure.
Clarke, who came on the invitation of Sports Organiser Allister Munroe, stated that he was extremely impressed with what he saw and it is only a matter of time before Munroe gets a qualified coach to work along with him to take the natural talent to the next level.
Commenting on his experience, Clarke, who admitted that he prefers to work at the junior level, has also assisted the West Indies female team in the past as recent as during their preparations for the recently staged ICC World Cup and Twenty20 Tournament.
“I recently worked with former West Indies opener Sherwin Campbell during the preparatory phase of the senior WI Women’s squad,” Clarke disclosed.
He also coaches Wesley Hall Primary School, the current champions at that level in his native Barbados.
