Director of Sport Neil Kumar yesterday confirmed that for the first time female football will be added to the list of other sports for the first half of the Inter Guyana Games set for April 24 – 27 in Georgetown, Guyana.
The female team will be primarily made up of players from the Ancient County and they have already commenced preparations.
The 24-member male squad is expected to be known this weekend following the final two days of trials set for the Carifesta Sports Complex ground.
Head coach Dennis ‘Chow’ Hunte disclosed that players from Linden, Berbice, Bartica and Georgetown will all be in contention for a place on the squad and competition is expected to be intense. Sessions are expected to commence at 10:00hrs on both days.
Swimming and athletics will also be contested at the IGG.
Kumar said he was very happy with the progress of the respective disciplines, the responses from the associations as well as the overall plans for the games.
The Government of Guyana and Corporate Guyana will be chipping in to ensure that the games are the best ever.
Meanwhile, the statutory meeting of the IGG committee will take place tomorrow evening. The names of athletes of the various teams will be released next week.
