The G.C.A. held a Symposium under the theme “Developing Quality Players”.
The programme was chaired by one of the Vice Presidents, Neil Barry, who is also the Chairman of the Cricket Development Committee.
Despite the heavy rainfall, representatives from all member clubs attended including former international cricketer and Coach Roger Harper and Ex-National cricketer Mark Harper who shared their knowledge and experience.
A number of ideas and plans were put forward for Cricket Development and producing Quality players and discussions were held with positive responses from the participants.
This Symposium mainly targeted 1st & 2nd Divisions Captains and Coaches.
Emphasis was placed on playing competitions in the longer version of the game since it is felt that only through this format a player will be able to learn to play the game properly. The competitions will be structured to be competitive with the introduction of a ‘Bonus points’ system.
Seminars, Clinics and Workshops will be held at various levels and these will include ones for grounds-men and Pitch preparation.
To get the ball rolling a two-day workshop is set for today and tomorrow at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) for Coaches and Captains with the emphasis being on organizing and managing net sessions.
This workshop will be conducted by Roger Harper and assisted by Mark Harper. Also, a Scoring and Statistician Seminar will be held by next weekend. Summer & Youth camps were discussed with plans already ahead to have this kick-started.
Women’s cricket has been discussed with the view of targeting the Schools. Decisions were taken to upgrade the data system of our players statistics and profiles which had begun in 2007.
The participants felt the benefits and information shared was of great value and as such have recommended a follow-up session be held.
