National Wicketkeeper Derwin Christian and opener Shemroy Barrington scored final day centuries, while West Indies under-19 left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul bagged 4-97 as the second round President’s Cup three-day cricket encounter between the Clive Lloyd Super Cats and the Lance Gibbs Tigers ended in a draw at Bourda yesterday.
The competition is being used to select the Guyana team for the next Carib Beer first-class tournament and the final match is scheduled for the DCC ground from Wednesday to Thursday.
The tons from Christian and Barrington followed up a solid 86 from Devon Clements while former West Indies youth batsman Assad Fudadin (54) and first-class legs-spinner Davendra Bishoo (31) also chipped in as the Tigers, reached 483-9 from their overnight score of 167-1 when the game was called off at 16:00hrs.
Scores:-Super Cats 373, Tigers 182 & 483-9
The final day began with Barrington on 79 and Clements on 63 and the pair extended their second wicket partnership to 175 with confident batting before Clements was leg before to national under-19 pacer 16-year-old Keon Joseph in overcast conditions at 208-2.
Clements’ 86 lasted 155 balls, 165 minutes and included 12 fours and two sixes while Permaul soon removed Barrington to a catch to mid-on at 250-3.
The 20-year-old Barrington played an array of scintillating shots on the fast Bourda sward and counted sixteen fours in his 188-ball and 250 minute innings before his loose lofted drive ended his innings and the entertaining 42-run stand with the 23-year-old Fudadin.
The 19-year-old Permaul, who has 22 wickets from eight first-class matches, then quickly removed Krishna Deosarran (2) and national 20/20 player Chris Barnwell (0) as two wickets tumbled at 252.
Fudadin, who has scored three fifties in 21 first-class games, was then caught and bowled by first-class off-spinner Zaheer Mohamed on the stroke of lunch for a 70-ball 54 with five fours and two sixes to leave the Tigers on 313-6 at the interval.
The 25-year-old Christian, who averages just 15.79 from his 17 first-class matches despite his obvious batting talent, took the attack to the bowlers hitting 16 fours and four mighty sixes in his 120 from 114 balls and 207 minutes before he was ninth out; caught at mid-on, driving at Permaul at 466-9.
National under-19 skipper Eugene LaFluer (9) fell to the off-spin of Steven Jacobs while Bishoo, who continues to show improving all-round promise, drove Permaul to extra cover.
Former national under-19 all-rounder Ryan Hercules finished unbeaten on 22 as the Tigers batted for 119 overs for their impressive total to draw the match after conceding a 191-run first innings lead on the second day.
