Last Sunday at the Pouderoyen ground, the knockout stage of the West Demerara Inter-Block football championships sponsored by the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports got underway with several matches.
Canal #1 got a walkover from Coglan Dam, while Crane Rovers squeezed past Showtime ‘B’ 1-0 thanks to Dellon Josiah’s 11th minute strike.
Samaroo Dam beat Goed Fortuin 2-0. Sherwin Todd (17) and Ruel Dillon (20) were the goal scorers. Showtime ‘A’ got the better of Middle Street All Stars by the lone strike of the contest, Deon Kennedy’s 20th minute effort.
Meanwhile, Friendship and Annandale have advanced to the final of the Buxton Inter-Block tournament following respective wins last weekend. A date for the final will be determined after the Carifesta activities.
On Saturday last, Annandale defeated Middle Walk Back 2-1. James Adams (21) and Shaka Andrews (69) scored for the winners, while Selwyn Boyce (49) had temporarily equalised for the losers.
Friendship had to pull out all the stops to ground out a 4-3 win on penalty kicks in their match against Company Front after the scores were level at the end of regulation and extra time.
