Race change made on KMTC Emancipation Horse Race card as entries pour in
Kaieteur Sports – One change has been made to the Kennard Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) horse race meet, slated for Sunday, August 2, at the Club’s, Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne, Berbice.
A total of seven races are still on the day’s card. The organisers have decided to drop the event for K and J horses and replace it with another event for 2 years old maiden horses. Entries have begun to roll in and a number of sponsors have already indicated their willingness to be a part of the much anticipated day’s event.
There are close to $10M in cash, trophies and other incentives up for the taking.
The Emancipation Cup, which is open to all 3-year old and over horses, is the feature event for the day. With a $1M available for the winner over a distance of one-mile a star studded field is expected to participate.
This will be followed by the E class non winners and open to F and G class horses over seven furlongs for a winning purse of $500,000 and a trophy.
The horses classified H and lower will see the winner taking home $400,000 and a trophy in the 7-furlong event.
There is an event for three-year-old Guyana Bred maiden horses and three years old Guyana Bred maidens’ winner of one. The winner will be taking home $400,000 and a trophy. The distance is one mile.
Guyana-Bred two-year-old maiden (division One) horses will be running for a winner’s purse of $350,000 and a trophy over 5 furlongs.
There is a similar event for 2 years, Guyana bred maiden (division horses).
The race for the L Class Open animals also carries a winning purse of $350, 000 over 7 Furlongs.
The Champion and runner-up Jockeys, top trainer and stables will all receive accolades, compliments of Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall and the organisers.
The day’s event will be conducted using the rules of the Kennard Memorial Turf Club. Race time is 12:30 hrs. (Samuel Whyte)
