The foundation of the event was based on Unicomer’s donation of G$500,000 to the Malteenoes Sports Club to support the ongoing development of its academy programme.
Gillian Matthews, Unicomer’s Directing Manager, expressed great pleasure at the company being at the forefront of West Indies cricket development, noting that in being good citizens, it is essentially to give back especially to the growth of sport by virtue of the building the grassroots programme.
She emphasized that investing in people, along with partnerships with CWI, is very important to the company, adding that Malteenoes has been an integral part of the community since 1902 making this move one for the future, which will allow more coaching, games and memorable moments for the younger crop of players.
Meanwhile, Director of Sports Steve Ninvalle said government is eager to focus on nurturing future talents of cricket while thanking Courts for ensuring their path to greatness is smoother.
Ninvalle, who wished the players and team success ahead of their first match, believed that it’s no accident that careful planning was involved in making the sports arena in Guyana such a huge success given the list of regional and international activities billed for the next few months.
Sonia Forrester, Banks DIH PR executive also shared her joy at knowing the support on her entity’s behalf has been a proud moment as they have been able to partner with the team, thus celebrating the future of sports.
One important aspect was further highlighted by Cricket West Indies’ Events Manager Dario Barthley, who believed the partnership was a huge signal to the rest of Guyana and the Caribbean that the West Indies is committed to growing the sport across all facets.
Barthley lauded Courts Guyana while expressing gratitude to Banks DIH for being part of CWI’s growing model of commercialisation.
He believed that from a commercial perspective, support on and off the field has been significantly enhanced thus providing even more value to the community.
Barthley outlined that the overall experience gained during travels is highly appreciated, as it signifies an opening for business and collaboration in corporate Guyana and the Caribbean, marked by an agreement with Guyana Tourism Authority.
In closing, he thanked everyone involved for their involvement further wishing the team success in Guyana and throughout the length series.
