Kaieteur Sports – All preparations have been completed and systems are in place for the much anticipated Emancipation horserace meet, organised by the Kennard Memorial Turf Club (KMTC).

The event, which is slated for this Sunday 2nd August, is turning out to be one of the major attractions for the Emancipation weekend.

Leading Insurance Brokers P and P Insurance Brokers Company has come on board in a big way as it heads the list of sponsors in bankrolling the mega event.

The P and P Insurance Breakage which was founded and is headed by popular businessman, Community and Sports activist and entrepreneur, Bishwa Panday, is known for its Philanthropy as it continues its benevolence with a substantial input into the event.

The seven race meet has over $10 million dollars in cash, trophies and other incentives up for grabs.

The Emancipation Cup, which is open to all 3-year old and over horses, is the feature event for the day. With a $1M winner’s money and trophy available for the top horse over a distance of one-mile, a star studded field is expected to participate. Among those looking to take an early lead are Hot and Lucky, Gryphon and Front Line Warrior.

A mouthwatering encounter is anticipated in the E class non-winner’s event and also open to F and G class horses over seven furlongs for a winning purse of $500,000 and a trophy. The lineup includes Stormy Victory, Converter, Turmalina Negra, Qurbaan Kingdom and Oy Vey are among the top entries slated to battle in the Co-feature event.

The horses classified H and lower will see the winner taking home $400,000 and a trophy in the 7-furlong event.

There is an event for three-year-old Guyana Bred maiden horses and three years old Guyana Bred maidens’ winner of one. The winner will be taking home $400,000 and a trophy. The distance is one mile.

Guyana-Bred two-year-old maiden (division One) horses will be running for a winner’s purse of $350,000 and a trophy over 5 furlongs.

There is a similar event for 2 years, Guyana bred maiden (division two) horses.

The race for the L Class Open animals also carries a winning purse of $350,000 over 7 Furlongs. An exciting and action packed day of racing is anticipated especially since the KMTC is one of the premiere horse racing venues in the country.

The Champion and runner-up Jockeys, top trainer and stables will all receive accolades, compliments of Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall and the organisers.

The day’s event will be conducted using the rules of the Kennard Memorial Turf Club. Bugle time is 12:30 hrs. (Samuel Whyte)
