Kaieteur Sports – National Cyclist Andre ‘Padlock’ Green continued his good showing since returning to the road, whipping the field to ride away with the Post Father’s Day cycle event in Berbice.
The event, which was organised by the Flying Ace Cycle Club (FACC) of New Amsterdam, was held around the town of New Amsterdam.

Green was once again in sublime form as he lapped the field in the 10 laps event.
The race was for cyclists in Region 5 (Mahaica/Berbice) and Region 6 (East Berbice Corentyne) only. The riders pedaled off from in front of the Level Up Bar at the junction of Charles Place and Republic Road, New Amsterdam, proceeded along Republic Road, turn left into Vryheid Street, left into Main Street, proceeded along New Amsterdam into Stanleytown, left into Tacama Turn along Republic Road to pass the starting point for 10 laps, then to finish at its point of origin.
The cyclists were sent on their way by his Worship, the Mayor of New Amsterdam Wainwright McIntosh. This was after he led the riders in a one lap ride around the town.
Green and Mario Washington went to the front from the start and continued their duel until the dominant Green took charge and was never challenged again. Lapping the entire field in the process to win with ease.
Washington rode home second with the evergreen Jaikarran Sookhai riding in third.
Sookhai was first among the veterans with Deon “Snow Cone” David second, Syborne Fernandes third and Franco Crawford senior, fourth.
Green was so dominant that he won all the prime point prizes up for grabs.
Special prizes were presented to veterans Errol Rose and Franco Crawford. Another special prize was also given to Keon Budhan who travelled from Mahaica. Rose was specially mentioned for his longevity in the field of athletics, cycling and general all round sports ability.
A special prize was also given to 10 years old Cyclist, Franco Crawford junior. A number of sponsors, including, New Amsterdam Mayor Wainwright McIntosh, assisted with sponsorship.
Founder, president and coach of the FACC Randolph Roberts was the coordinator. Roberts had words of thanks for a number of sponsors including Mayor Wainwright Mc Intosh, A. Ally and sons, Jamal King of Clean Wear Laundry, Js Supermarket, Fix IT Electronics, Prem and Vanessa Karran and Contractor Shazam Sattaur among others.
He was also thankful to the Guyana Police Force for their support. (Samuel Whyte)
