Kaieteur Sports – Fresh off securing promotion to the Elite League, Camptown Football Club has received another boost to its development after becoming the latest beneficiary of the Government’s Community Grounds Enhancement Programme.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Charles Ramson Jr. visited theCampbellville facility on Saturday to officially hand over a new John Deere lawnmower machine, which will assist with the maintenance of the playing surface and support the club’s continued growth.Accompanying the Minister was Assistant Director of Sport Franklin Wilson.

Minister of Sports, Charles Ramson along with Assistant DoS Franklin Wilson share first moment with the newly donated lawnmower. Several players and members of the club also sharing the moment.
Camptown Vice-President Salim Twahir and Treasurer Troy Mendonca welcomed the donation, describing it as a significant contribution that will benefit not only the club but also the wider Campbellville community.
Addressing those gathered, Minister Ramson said the presentation reflected the Government’s commitment to honouring promises made to community organisations.
“As a Government, we believe in keeping our word because without that there can be no trust or partnership,” Ramson stated.
He recalled that President Dr. Irfaan Ali visited the club in 2024 and committed to improving the facility through fencing and other infrastructure upgrades. According to the Minister, many of those improvements are already visible, with the lawnmower representing another step in fulfilling those commitments.
Ramson noted that only a few years ago the club was struggling to remain active, “non-existent” but through collaboration between the Government and the club’s executive, Camptown has transformed itself into one of Guyana’s newest Elite League clubs despite operating with limited resources.
“Relationship and partnership are paramount to success,” the Minister said.
“When we first came, there may have been some hesitation about whether this partnership would lead to anything meaningful. But the leadership at Camptown has always been supportive of the Ministry and the Government.”
He added that despite perceptions surrounding the community, he believed genuine engagement would ultimately earn the trust of residents.
“On behalf of President Irfaan Ali and the People’s Progressive Party Government, it is my pleasure to donate this riding lawnmower tractor to the Camptown Football Club,” Ramson declared.
Responding on behalf of the club, Vice-President Salim Twahir expressed gratitude for the Government’s support.”On behalf of the executive members of Camptown Football Club, it is my distinct pleasure to extend our sincere appreciation to Minister Charles Ramson Jr. for this generous donation,” Twahir said.
“This contribution represents far more than a donation; it is an investment in the club, our players and the community. Proper maintenance of our playing field is essential to providing a safe and suitable environment for training, competition and the continued development of the club.
“This lawnmower will greatly assist us in achieving that objective, and we deeply value your commitment to the development of sport and youth in Guyana.”
