GCF visits Leguan Island as part of training exercise
Kaieteur Sports – The Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) visited Leguan Island as part of a training initiative directed towards teaching the fundamentals across the school’s system.
Roughly 60 enthusiastic students and teachers joined GCF executives for an exciting day of chess training at the Leguan Secondary School.
Participants, including teachers, dived into the fundamentals of the game, and by the end of the day, students confidently knew how to move pieces, make captures, and were taught how to execute a basic checkmate.
The Guyana Chess federation held a one-day training programme for teachers and students of Leguan Secondary School.
In keeping with the momentum, participants were sent home with their very own chess manual for beginners, with schools also receiving chess sets.
Schools like Leguan Secondary, Maryville Primary, Success Primary, Richmond Hill Primary and Eastern Leguan Primary have now had their full introduction to the sport from the grassroots level.
The GCF, meanwhile, outlined that it was incredibly proud to share the love of the game with the young minds of the future.
The federation also lauded headteachers who supported the initiative with a special recognition going out to Ms. Augustus, who was extremely dedicated in making the entire event possible.
