Plaisance Sec’, President’s College faceoff today in YBG’s East Coast-Country final

Kaieteur Sports – Plaisance Secondary and President’s College (PC) are set for a clinical showdown today as Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) crowns its East Coast Regional champion and determines the next qualifier for the 2026 National Schools Basketball Festival (NSBF).

After Queen’s College secured its place in the national championship with an impressive 11-point victory last weekend, the spotlight now shifts to the Country Regionals, where two in-form teams will battle for regional supremacy and a coveted ticket to the national stage.

With everything on the line, supporters can expect an intense contest filled with grit, defensive pressure, and championship aspirations as YBG closes another exciting chapter of its regional playoff campaign.

PC’s Wolfe-Ross show sends them into YBG’s Country final against Plaisance Secondary today.

Plaisance Secondary booked its place in the final after grinding out a hard-fought 20-17 victory over Hope Secondary in the opening semifinal. In a contest dominated by defence and rebounding, Trevor James controlled the paint, pulling down 11 rebounds while contributing five points to anchor Plaisance’s effort.

Christopher Ram once again delivered when it mattered most, knocking down seven crucial points to lead the scoring for Plaisance, while Prince Mars chipped in with six points and several key rebounds that helped maintain his team’s narrow advantage throughout the encounter.

Hope Secondary mounted a spirited challenge behind Dion Moore, who poured in a game-high 10 points, while Isaiah Browne added six. However, despite their offensive efforts, they were unable to overcome Plaisance’s disciplined defensive stand as the eventual finalists held firm to secure the three-point victory.

If Plaisance earned its place through determination, President’s College stormed into the championship game in emphatic fashion.

PC unleashed a relentless offensive barrage and suffocating defensive performance to dismantle Golden Grove Secondary 54-0 in one of the most dominant displays of the tournament. From the opening tip-off, President’s College dictated the tempo, forced turnovers, controlled the boards, and never allowed Golden Grove to find any offensive rhythm.

Romarion Wolfe spearheaded the attack with a game-high 17 points, repeatedly finding ways to score in transition and in the half-court set. Dontrell Ross provided outstanding support with 14 points of his own, as the duo relentlessly attacked the basket and overwhelmed Golden Grove’s defence. Terron Mohabir also played a pivotal role in the rout, contributing nine points as President’s College continued to pour on the pressure en route to the lopsided victory, keeping their NSBF dreams very much alive.

With semifinal victories secured, Plaisance Secondary and President’s College will now collide in the East Coast “Country” Regional Basketball Final today at the President’s College Hardcourt, Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara.
