Kaieteur Sports – The Guyana Under-19 cricket team recently shared a light moment with Minister of Culture, Youth & Sport, Charles Ramson Jr who spent some time with the lads ahead of their upcoming campaign in this year’s CWI Rising Stars U-19 50-Over Championships.
Upon another recent site-check visit to the nearly-completed Anna Regina National Stadium, the Sports Minister spoke briefly with the players, who have been encamped since the 6th and just happened to host one of their many preparatory sessions at the newly constructed venue.

Minister of Sports Charles Ramson Jr. told tye national U19 cricket team that mere matches don’t build skills but constant practice after games is the key to becoming a better all-round cricketers.
Minister Ramson, who was a youth cricketer in his days, imparted some firsthand tips and words of encouragement to what is considered the next batch of Guyana Harpy Eagles and possibly West Indies prospects during his brief chat in a video clip posted online during his usual site visit.
“Your skill and the development of your skill is based on what you do repeatedly. You have to keep practicing the one skill of that area over and over again. It’s like when you go and write your test, how much did you study? Well, the practice is your study so this might be a different way of thinking for you,” said the Sports Minister.
He urged the youngsters to maintain discipline as it relates to putting in hard work while encouraging them to not just practice but enjoy the process of growing from strength to strength.
“Don’t just go through the motions, don’t think that game day is the most important day; your practice is equally important as your game day, because the game day is just the finishing of your practice.”
Minister Ransom concluded his spirited address by adding that the extra emphasis on practicing one’s skillset is crucial at this stage, given the upcoming responsibilities the lad will be faced with; the Minister further reinforced that they should utilize their practice sessions much like how they would academically when studying for an exam or so.
The team, meanwhile, will continue their training as they look to get themselves in peak physical and mental condition before winging out where they will have a few days to get themselves acclimatized with the conditions in Antigua with action bowling off from July 7. (Clifton Ross)
