Good outing for Jockey Ross on International debut
Kaieteur Sports – Colin Ross, one of Guyana’s most decorated jockeys in this era, created history, when he made his international debut in Barbados on Saturday afternoon.
Ross saddled up for two races in the World Heritage at the Garrison Savannah. Ross saddled up on ‘Barnabas’ in his maiden race and he piloted ‘Gun Smoke’ in his second.
Jockey Ross mounted ahead of his first ride in Barbados.
The first race to Ross was the Chamberlain Bridge (Condition Race) for West Indian Bred Three-Year-Olds, running over 1100m with a purse of US$16,500, while his second event was the Carlisle Bay (Handicap) for Three Years and Older rated 45-20, going at a distance of 1100m with a purse of US$15,000.
Jockey Ross who has won multiple champion jockey titles in Guyana’s horseracing, secured third on his debut outing with Barnabas.
Barnabas, owned by Round Table Stud Farm, and trained by Antonio Burch was in the betting at 3-1.
In Ross’ second appearance of the day, with Gun Smoke, he did not place in the top four, but he walked away with valuable lessons. Gun Smoke is trained and owned by Eddie Bell.
Ross is expected to return to Guyana for the CARICOM Cup which is set for July 5 at the Port Mourant Turf Club. This will be the final competitive preparation ahead of the Guyana Cup on August 23.
