Kaieteur Sports – The Cooperative Republic of Guyana in observance of its 60th Independence Diamond Jubilee anniversary is get set to celebrate in style with ten (10) sport disciplines rolling out what’s expected to be exciting competitions.
The best athletes in the respective disciplines will be showcasing their talents in these tournaments and will all be rewarded as they seek to ink their names on the trophies up for grabs in this once in a lifetime opportunity as we observe this milestone.
Badminton will be contested ta the National Gymnasium from May 14-17 where ten (10) categories of athletes will compete from 17:00hrs on Thursday and Friday and 13:00hrs on Saturday and Sunday, the final day.
The categories are Men’s & Women’s Singles, Men’s & women’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Under-23 Men’s Singles, and Under-23 Women’s Singles.
Squash will be contested at the National Racquet Centre from Thursday to Sunday where the crem de la cream of the nation’s players will collide, the top eight (8) in each category.
Another ten (10) category showcase is in the making with many of these players also being top of their game in the Caribbean where Guyana has been very dominant over the past years.
Service time on Thursday will be 17:00hrs and the categories are Men’s & Women’s Singles, Men’s & Women’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Boys & Girls U19, Boys & Girls U19 Doubles, and U-19 Doubles.
T20 Softball Cricket and Female 12/12 tournaments will be contested on Saturday and Sunday at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary from 10:00hrs on Saturday and 09:30hrs on Sunday.
Master’s 40 Years & Over and Master’s Over-50 along with the female segment would be played with all finals on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Tennis players will add their racquets to the fray from Sunday and thereafter, daily until Sunday 24th. Five categories will be played at the National Park Courts from 10:00hrs. Weekday play will serve off from 15:30hrs. The categories are Men’s & Women’s Open, Novice Male & Female, and Junior Boys.
Athletics, Basketball, Dominoes, Hockey, Table Tennis and Volleyball would also be contested, this month.
