GFA Senior Men’s Knockout Football continues: Chester’s hat-trick powers North Star to 4–1 rout over Motherland FC
Kaieteur Sports – Crackling with anticipation, the tempo remained high as the small crowd witnessed a sensational hat-trick performance from Charles Chester, leading North Star Football Club to its first win of the tournament against Mother Land FC, who stumbled to their second consecutive defeat in the NALICO/NAFICO-GFA Senior Men’s Knockout Football tournament on Tuesday.
Plaisance ground came alive as North Star Football Club stamped their authority with a commanding 4-1 thrashing over Georgetown rivals Mother Land FC in the opening clash of the holiday-doubleheader.
North Star came out the blocks firing. Shaquan Deen lit the fuse early, striking in the 8th minute with a strong, well-balanced effort that eventually muscled its way into the back of the net. 1-0, and North Star looked locked in. But Mother Land strikers weren’t about to roll over. Lonsdale George answered the call in the 24th minute, coolly slotting home the equalizer to bring things level at 1-1.

The game eventually shifted; the momentum increased favourably for a calculated North Star.
From there, it was the Charles Chester show. Just three minutes after the restart, Chester pounced on a loose ball, surged forward, and unleashed a thunderbolt to restore North Star’s lead in the 27th. That goal cracked Mother Land’s defensive shape wide open, and Chester drove right through it.
With slick movement and ruthless finishing, he carved up the midfield twice more to complete a clinical hat-trick, putting the result beyond doubt and sealing a 4-1 triumph. Mother Land’s frustration showed, with George picking up a yellow card just before the break.
Later in the evening, Vengy FC and Pele FC played out a gritty, no-nonsense 0-0 draw. Chances were scarce, tackles were firm, and neither side could find that decisive spark, forcing them to settle for a point apiece.
Meanwhile, zooming out, the tournament table is already heating up. Riddim Squad and Beacon FC are setting the pace as group leaders, both sitting pretty with maximum points from two matches in Groups One and Three. Eastveldt FC, boasting a heavy goal difference, are right in the mix alongside Campton FC in Group One, both on four points.
And here’s the kicker, Eastveldt FC, Campton FC, Riddim Squad, Beacon FC, Vengy FC, and Pele FC are all still unbeaten heading into the next round, Pele FC yet to affect a win.
In a recap of previous action, Sunday’s doubleheader set the tone for the week, with Eastveldt FC running riot in a 7-1 demolition of Northern Rangers FC with Akeem Farley and Tyrone Khan leading the charge in a goal fest. Meanwhile, Ordis FC and Genesis FC battled to a stalemate in their second meeting of the campaign.
With backing from the Georgetown Football Association, sponsorship from NALICO/NAFICO Insurance, and sanctioning by the Guyana Football Federation the tournament continues.
