Kaieteur Sports – The Flying Ace Cycle Club (FACC) of New Amsterdam, Berbice has once again organised a feature cycle road race around the town of New Amsterdam in observance of Mashramani.
The event, which is sponsored by a number of business entities and individuals in Berbice, will be held on Mashramani Day, today Monday 23rd February.
The race is for cyclists in Regions Five and Six East Berbice/ Corentyne and Mahaica/ Berbice.
The race is set to pedal off at 09:00hrs from Republic Road and Charles Place. The riders will then turn left into Vryheid Street, left into Main Street, proceed along Main Street, turn left at Tacama Turn into Republic Road for six laps a total of 30 miles.
All the top cyclists in the two Regions are expected to be on show. There are several prizes at stake including cash, trophies and other incentives.
The first three finishers will be rewarded along with the top three veterans, first two juniors and first two beginners.
There are also six sprint point prizes up for grabs.
Founder President and coach of the FACC, Randolph Roberts, will be coordinating the event. He will be assisted by former National cyclist and Re-migrant Franco Crawford.
The cyclists are expected to be sent on their way by Patron and Mayor of New Amsterdam Wainwright McIntosh. (Samuel Whyte)
