…cites Guyana as major contributor
Kaieteur News – United States oil major, Exxon Mobil Corporation in 2025 hit its highest daily production in more than 40 years, with Guyana’s operations in the company’s forefront of major contributors.
In its 2025 annual report, the corporation reported strong growth in production numbers with majority of current output coming from Guyana and the Permian.
The company said “ExxonMobil has a strong pipeline of development projects, including continued growth in Guyana and the Permian Basin, as well as LNG expansion opportunities in Qatar, Mozambique, Papua New Guinea, and the United States. In 2025, Upstream production averaged 4.7 million oil-equivalent barrels per day (Moebd), our highest production in over 40 years.”
Moreover, with future development projects and drilling activities expected to bring more production online, Exxon expects further growth over the next several years.
In highlighting Guyana’s significance to the corporation, Exxon told shareholders, “Currently about two thirds of the corporation’s global production come from Permian, Guyana, and LNG resources. This proportion is generally expected to grow.”
Exxon’s current investment plans will increase oil production from the Americas with Guyana’s crude taking the lead as a lower cost and higher quality.
The annual report provided a glowing update on the performance of Guyana’s assets. The document states, “Liza Destiny, Liza Unity and Prosperity floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels continued to produce above investment basis capacity in 2025.”
Meanwhile, a fourth FPSO which commenced production activities in August 2025 progressed to ramp up throughout the fourth quarter, achieving an average gross production of 240,000 barrels per day (bpd).
“The combined gross production from the four operating vessels exceeded 870 kbd (thousand barrels per day) in the fourth quarter of 2025. With start-up of a fourth vessel, Guyana achieved record annual production in 2025 of 715 kbd,” the annual report added.
Meanwhile, Exxon informed shareholders that Uaru, and Whiptail, the fifth and sixth developments in the Stabroek Block, respectively, are progressing on schedule and will each add approximately 250 kbd. In September last year, Exxon also made a final investment decision for the seventh project, Hammerhead, after receiving the required regulatory approvals from the government of Guyana. That development is anticipated to come online in 2029, pushing ExxonMobil’s total FPSO fleet in Georgetown to eight by the end of 2030.
Guyana’s production
Based on figures reported by government in the 2026 budget, Guyana produced a total of 260 million barrels of oil in 2025.
During that period, the country received 32 million barrels while ExxonMobil and partners got a staggering 228 million barrels. Consequently, the Natural Resource Fund (NRF) in 2025 received US$2.1 billion in profit oil, comprising US$400.1 million from Liza Destiny, US$767.7 million from Liza Unity, US$824 million from Prosperity, and US$133.6 million from One Guyana.
The oil account also obtained $330.7 million in royalty payments during the year from the operator of the Stabroek Block. Additionally, the petroleum receipts for the year included a US$15M signing bonus from a new Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) signed on November 11, 2025 with a consortium for the shallow-water Block S4.
Under the 2016 Production Sharing Agreement (PSA), Guyana receives 12.5 per cent of profits. ExxonMobil is allowed to take 75 per cent of the oil produced every month to cover its expenses and also enjoys a 12.5 per cent profit share. In addition to its 12.5 per cent profits, Guyana also receives 2 per cent of gross production as royalty.
