Petra outfits quarterfinalists in ongoing Modec Tertiary Football C/ship
Kaieteur Sports – As Petra Organisation ramps up preparations to host the quarterfinal stage of the ongoing Modec Tertiary Football Tournament, the tournament received another major boost with the distribution of uniforms to the final eight teams.
In a significant show of investment and commitment to youth football, the Petra Organisation, in collaboration with title sponsor Modec (Guyana), outfitted the remaining teams set to compete in next weekend’s knockout round. The brief but symbolic presentation ceremony was held at the Ministry of Education Sports Complex following the completion of the opening round.
Director of Petra Organisation, Troy Mendonca, joined Modec Guyana Country Manager Rafael Femis and team representatives for the exercise, officially confirming the eight institutions that have advanced to the quarterfinal stage of the inaugural football competition.
As promised, Petra Organisation has outfitted the eight remaining teams in the inaugural Tertiary Football Tournament. Rafael Femis, Modec’s Country Manager assisting with the handing over while Troy Mendonca Petra Director also sharing the moment.
The teams advancing are: University of Guyana (Turkeyen) Campus, Essequibo Technical Institute, Government Technical Institute, Mahaicony Technical Institute, Upper Corentyne Industrial Training Centre, Linden Technical Institute, Port Mourant Technical Institute and New Amsterdam Technical Institute.
During his featured address, Mendonca praised the quality and intensity displayed throughout the opening round.
“What we have witnessed over the past two weeks has been truly special. Each team has given a good account of themselves, and that’s what football is all about,” he noted. “Now the tournament narrows to the final eight as we head into the knockout stage.”Meanwhile, Modec’s Country Manager Rafael Femis echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the company’s commitment to both sport and education.

“Today we celebrate all the teams participating in the Modec Tertiary Football Tournament. Your dedication, drive and sportsmanship have been on display over the past few weeks, creating a platform for everyone to strive,” Femis said. “At Modec, we believe that sports and education are essential to the growth and development of our youth. Sports teach discipline, resilience and teamwork, while education opens doors to opportunity and progress. By supporting this tournament, we hope to inspire you in every area of your lives.”
Femis also encouraged the remaining teams to compete with passion and pride, reminding players that the tournament offers opportunities beyond the field, especially as the company prepares to host a career conference. He stressed that every match presents a chance to learn, grow and represent their institutions and communities with distinction.
The tournament also enjoys support from corporate partners MACORP, Demerara Mutual, Powerade, MVP Sports, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.
Quarterfinal action is set for Saturday, February 28, with New Amsterdam Technical Institute facing Government Technical Institute in the opening matchup, followed by Upper Corentyne Industrial Training Centre against Port Mourant Technical Institute. Both fixtures are scheduled for the Scotts Ground.
The tournament is being staged through a strong partnership between Modec Guyana and the Petra Organisation, setting the stage for an exciting climax as the race for the title intensifies.
