Kaieteur News – A quiet Sunday evening at La Parfait Harmonie, West Coast Demerara, turned deadly when a father of four was allegedly stabbed to death by a man said to be of unsound mind.
Dead is Indae Ramotar, a welder in his late 60s and resident of First Avenue, La Parfait Harmonie. The fatal attack occurred around 19:30 hrs near a shop in the community.
According to a family friend, Ramotar had left his home to purchase an item at a nearby store when he was confronted by the suspect, who had been standing across the road.
The suspect allegedly approached Ramotar and declared, “I want blood,” before suddenly launching a violent attack.
Ramotar was reportedly stabbed multiple times to the abdomen with a knife inside the shop. Eyewitnesses said the attacker then calmly exited the premises and began walking along the roadway as if nothing had occurred.
Persons at the shop gave chase, reportedly restraining the suspect until ranks of the Guyana Police Force arrived.
“People are saying since yesterday the man was walking around saying he wanted to kill someone,” a relative told this publication, raising questions about whether warning signs were ignored.
An ambulance was summoned to the scene, but Ramotar was examined and pronounced dead.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue. It is unclear whether he will undergo a psychiatric evaluation as part of the probe.
The killing has left residents shaken, with some expressing concern about community safety and the handling of individuals believed to be mentally unstable.
