(Kaieteur News) – Guyanese soca artiste, Patrick “Pahjo” Joseph is among the songwriters behind this year’s carnival Road March hit song “Encore.”
The song performed by 12th time road march winner and soca powerhouse, Machel Montano racked up rave reviews during Carnival season in Trinidad and Tobago—the home of soca music. But this is not the first that the Guyanese musician who is based in the UK has made waves on the soca scene.
He has more than five in the game and is a two-time Soca Artiste of the Year (2025). He told The Waterfalls that after years of working behind the scenes and lending his talent to some of the best in Caribbean music, he is now ready to hold his own.
He said, “I would like to be known as that humble guy who followed his dream and passion for music and made it.”
The bona fide soca lover said that his passion for the genre dates back to his childhood even before he got his first invitation to create the ‘riddim’ and pen lyrics for top artistes in the Caribbean. At the age of 8, Pahjo’s obsession with the genre earned him the nickname “Soca Junkie” within his family.
His passion later manifested destiny in 2019 when producer and close friend Joel “Joey2Kool” Browne invited him to pen his first track ‘the Tool Box Riddim.’ Though hesitant to record, the loss of a close friend-and their unforgettable advice, “do the things you love”-ignited the fire that birthed Pahjo the artiste in January 2020. Since then, he has never looked back.
Pahjo has since become the first Guyanese artiste ever booked for the prestigious Ubersoca Cruise in November 2025 and is now blazing a trail that’s rewriting the history of soca.
In just a few short years, he transformed from a rising talent into one of the most electrifying names on the international soca circuit.
He has collaborated with the legendary King Bubba FM, writing the soca Anthem ‘Pull Di pin,’ for Machel Montano, Skin and Wuss Ways. He was Crowned Guyanese Male Soca Artiste of the Year 2023 and 2026. The artiste has teamed up with Problem Child on the powerful anthem Identity, performed on Ubersoca Cruise and the Miami Carnival Main Stage for the 2024 season. He is also credited as the first Guyanese to be booked for the legendary Bournemouth Reggae Festival, UK.
Pahjo’s relentless drive, unmatched energy, and infectious sound have not only elevated Guyana’s presence in the arena but also earned him respect from industry giants and fans worldwide. His journey is proof that passion, persistence and authenticity can break barriers and make history.
