(Kaieteur News) A 49-year-old Soesdyke woman is dead and two other people are in critical condition after a head-on collision on the Coverden Public Road, East Bank Demerara, Wednesday evening.
Dead is Cheryl Skeete of Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara.
Police said the accident occurred around 18:45hrs and involved motor car PAM 2468, driven by a 44-year-old man of Coverden, and motor car PAM 6733, driven by another 49-year-old woman.
Initial investigations indicate that PAM 2468 was heading north along the western lane of the Coverden Public Road, allegedly at a fast rate of speed behind motor car PYY 615, when its driver attempted to overtake and collided head-on with PAM 6733, which was travelling south in the eastern lane.
Both vehicles sustained extensive damage, and all three occupants were injured, including Skeete, a passenger in PAM 6733.
Skeete was examined by Emergency Medical Technicians and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of PAM 6733 had to be extracted from the wreckage by the Guyana Fire Service and was taken to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where her condition is listed as critical.
The driver of PAM 2468 was also hospitalised; his condition is described as critical but stable.
Skeete’s body has been taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home for a post-mortem examination.
