(Kaieteur News) Two men were fatally shot at Vigilance South, East Coast Demerara (E.C.D), on Wednesday night, police confirmed on Thursday.
In a statement to the media, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) said ranks attached to Division 4C have launched an investigation into the shooting, which occurred at approximately 22:00 hrs and claimed the lives of Cordel August, 22, a wash bay attendant of Strathspey, E.C.D., and Eon Headley, 35, a self-employed resident of Vigilance South.
“Initial investigations revealed that the victims were among a gathering of persons at a shop in the area when two males, dressed in black and riding a motorcycle, approached them. During the encounter, the suspects allegedly discharged several rounds in their direction,” police said.
Both men sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to Enmore Regional Hospital by public-spirited citizens, but were pronounced dead on arrival.
An examination of the bodies confirmed gunshot wounds as the cause of the injuries. The remains were subsequently taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where they await post-mortem examinations.
Investigations are ongoing, and up to press time, no arrests had been made.
