Petra gets Green Light to host historic Linden Leg of MODEC Football Competition at Bayroc National Stadium
Kaieteur Sports – Football in Linden reaches a major milestone today as the Petra Organisation stages its first-ever Linden leg match at the newly constructed Bayroc National Stadium. Approval was granted yesterday by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports for the hosting of the inaugural Linden leg of the MODEC Football Competition.
The landmark event will be played today, Wednesday, February 12, marking the first competitive football action at the state-of-the-art facility and a significant step forward for sports development in the mining town.
Director of the Petra Organisation described the approval as a remarkable achievement for both Linden and Guyanese football.
“This is a defining moment for football in Linden and for Guyana as a whole. We are extremely grateful to Minister Charles Ramson and Minister Stephen Jacobs for their support and vision in making this possible. The Bayroc National Stadium is more than just a venue—it is a symbol of opportunity and progress for our athletes and communities,” he said.
The Petra Organisation also congratulated the Government of Guyana on delivering a facility of exceptional quality, noting that the availability of the Bayroc National Stadium will allow sports associations to place greater focus on talent identification, athlete development and competitive growth.
At the same time, Petra has appealed to the public to take pride in the new stadium and to help preserve it for future generations.
“This facility will benefit all Guyanese. We encourage everyone to treat it with care and respect, ensuring that it remains a beacon of inspiration and excellence for years to come.”
The Linden leg of the MODEC Football Competition is expected to provide an exciting display of schoolboy talent and national pride, while opening a new chapter in Petra’s schools’ football programme.
Today’s fixture will see Linden Technical Institute take on Cyril Potter College of Education, with kick-off set for 16:00 hrs at the Bayroc National Stadium.
