Kaieteur Sports – It’s down to the final four teams as Silver Shattas, the defending champions of the Upper Demerara Football Association’s Banks DIH year ending futsal championship were knocked out by Botafago 5-4, as quarterfinals were played Boxing Night at the Community Hard Court in Retrieve in the mining town of Linden.
On a crowd pleasing night of unexpected results, the final quarterfinal match ended with an overtime loss for the favoured defending champions Silver Shattas.
In a ‘ding-dong’ affair, the Blueberry Hill boys were constantly pressuring the more experienced Shattas, and when regulation time ended the scores read, 4-4.
However, Botafago’s Shane Haynes hit his second goal of the match which pulled them past Shattas in the extra period of play, after Donovan Francis also scored twice for the winners, as the other goal was netted by S. Caesar.
In the valiant attempt Shattas scorers were Colwyn Drakes with a brace and the other two from the boots of O. Williams and Omar Brewley.
To start the night’s proceedings Blueberry Hill created the first upset pounding out a 4-0 victory Winners Connection with Rydell Arthur striking twice and 1 apiece from Rondell Arthur and Shaka Lewis.
The second quarterfinal featured Topp XX and Milerock, with Topp XX after being down 2-0, recovered to score and exciting 4-2 win behind Ryan Arthur’s double and one each by Ryan Noel and Jamal Bentick.
