Kaieteur Sports – Eleven outstanding employees of the Port Mourant Public Hospital were honoured last Thursday by the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club, MS and two of its cricket teams under their annual Tribute to Medical Workers programme. The two teams honouring the workers were the Rose Hall Town Pepsi Under19 and The Namilco Thunderbolt Flour First Division team.
The simple presentation ceremony took place in the boardroom of the hospital and was attended by Club Secretary Hilbert Foster, Cricket Manager Robby Kissoonlall, Organising Secretary Tyrone Pottaya and players representative Nicholas Cameron. Also present were Head Doctor Ghanshaam Sukhdeo and Administrator Shaneeza Nabi of the hospital.
Foster in giving a review of the award, disclosed that the first presentation was done in 2015 after he was a patient at the public institution for a few days. During that period of time, he observed the hard work and dedication of the staff despite the constraints they faced on a daily basis. Over the years since then, over sixty employees have been honored after been recommended by the administration of the Hospital.
The former President of the Berbice Cricket Board stated that awardees are selected based on their attendance rate, discipline, dedication, relationship with fellow staff and willingness to go the extra distance to serve the general public. Foster congratulated the eleven awardees and urged them to uphold their high standards.
Kissoonlall, the RHTYSC Cricket Manager noted that the players of both teams were privileged to honour the outstanding employees. Players like West Indies test batsmen Kevin Sinclair and Kelvon Anderson along with Junior Sinclair, Slyus Tyndall, Clinton Pestano, Jonathan Rampersaud, Javed Karim, Jason Sinclair, Eon Hooper, Romesh Bharrat, Rafeal Mckenzie, Keith Simpson, Ramzan Koobeer, Matthew Pottaya, Tameshwar Deonanan, Leon Reddy and Jayden Ganpat are some of the players associated with one or both of the two teams.
The eleven awardees were Ameer Kadir, Annette Gonsalves, Shebecka DeCunha, Shonnel King, Dhanmatti Narain, Shelley Halley, Arifa Khan, Dr Dayana Rohaman, Latchmi Myers, Delano Lyte and Ezekeil DAndrade. D’Andrade was named worker of the year. Each awardee received a medal of excellence, a framed certificate of excellence, a trophy and a special gift. The Worker of the year carried home two special gifts from the two cricket teams.
Dr Sukhdeo expressed thanks to the management and members of the club for their cooperation with the public institution. He noted that the award would inspire the staff as it was a reward for their hard work to the general public. Dr Sukhdeo also stated that apart from hosting the award annually, the RHTYSC has made several contributions to the hospital.
The therapy unit has benefitted numerous times from the kindness of the two teams. Foster, also announced to loud applause that the club would shortly honour all the doctors attached to the hospital.
Meanwhile, the two teams along with their counterparts of the Poonai Pharmacy under 11 and 1, Farfan and Mendes under 15, Metro, Females and Bakewell Under 17 prepared and distributed hundreds of food hampers to less fortunate and elderly mothers. The hampers worth five thousand dollars each were shared out in honour of Mother’s Day 2026, The hampers consisted of sixteen different grocery items including flour, sugar, butter, soap powder, salt among others.
The hampers were shared out by the youth cricketers of the club accompanied by their respective managers on Mother’s Day.
The RHTYSC was founded in 1990 and over the years has won 132 different cricket tournaments at all levels while producing 133 Berbice players,78 national players and ten internationals.
