Kaieteur Sports – The Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPLF) has received a timely boost of one laptop compliments of the Pele FC Alumni Corp. The donation will further boost the administrative capacity of the federation during the hosting of competitions.
Making the presentation to GAPLF President, Franklin Wilson was representative of the Pele FC Alumni Adrian Murray who reminded that the Pele group has always been supportive of powerlifting over the years.
“We been very supportive of your sport over the years so when you approached us to assist in this regard, we had no hesitation. The sport has been doing very well for the nation and administrative soundness is one of the pillars that leads to success, thus our desire to assist.”
Wilson in response, thanked Murray for their continued confidence in the sport whilst promising that the desire to even do better is there.
“This new executive which was given the mandate a few months ago to lead the sport again, will ensure that we do so in a very progressive way. When I was told that we need to upscale our equipment to ensure efficiency, I had no hesitation in approaching Pele FC Alumni for assistance, and you have once again delivered. We say thank you.”
Following the hosting of a successful Novice championship in March, the federation is now planning for their next, Intermediate and Masters which is set for June 28th at a venue to be confirmed. A fund-raising activity is also being planned for this date.
The federation is also pursuing plans in keeping with the mandate of the International Powerlifting Federation to have accredited coaches travel with national teams; which is now compulsory, and to also have trained female assigned to female athletes when travelling.
The federation is also working on a more robust plan to re-energise the sport, engagements with athletes and gyms in various regions to reinvigorate the sport.
Amongst the regional and international competitions on the radar this year, are the South American Bench Press and Powerlifting Championships in Chile in September, and the Commonwealth Championships set for Canada also in September.
