Kaieteur Sports – Church basketball rivalry will take centre stage tonight and tomorrow night with four teams drawn from across Linden staging an east versus west of Linden matchups starting at 6.00pm, both nights at the Retrieve Hard Court in the bauxite mining town.
Organized by the Pentecostal Fire Assembly of God Church situated in the Valley on the Wismar Shore through their Youth Development, former coach of current National Club champions, Christopher ‘Labba’ Pollydore in conjunction with former Youth National guard Marlon Pollydore, who is home on holiday from the United States, has thrown support for this initiative, which is aimed at reviving the sport of basketball among their Christian brethren.
The Pentecostal Fire AOG Church has over the years promoted basketball competitions involving churches in Linden, and this time it is to garner interest among church teams from the east and west of Linden, who will battle against each other.
The west clash will have players from Wisrock Revival AOG, Pentecostal Fire AOG and Emmanuel AOG compete against a Veterans’ side, while the east battle brings together Mount Carmel AOG, Praise Tabernacle AOG and Calvary Temple AOG forming a force of one to face the mighty South Assembly AOG.
The winners will collide tomorrow night in the final, with the losers fielding a unit to tackle a Georgetown assembly in the supporting game from 6.00pm.
On both nights, there will be shootout competitions for boys and girls Under 10 and 15 years old.
And a specially arranged shootout contest has been added for pastors, also which should be interesting for those basketball fans in attendance.
Christopher Pollydore says trophies, replicas and medals are up for grabs for the winners.
