Kaieteur Sports – As competition intensifies in the 3rd One Guyana/Kashif & Shanghai President’s Futsal Championship, coordinated by the Kashif & Shanghai Organisation in association with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, the margin for error will be razor-thin when the highly anticipated round-of-32 tips off tonight with five electrifying encounters.
The top sixteen teams from the 2024/2025 edition, all of whom received byes into this round, will finally enter the fray. While their previous performances suggest they are favourites to progress into the round-of-sixteen, the knockout format leaves no room for complacency.
Tuesday night’s marquee clash at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall will pit defending champions Sparta Boss against first-round standouts Laing Avenue. Coached by Gregory ‘Jackie Chan’ Richardson, the star-studded Sparta Boss outfit is brimming with confidence after recently delivering Guyana’s maiden title at the Inter Guiana Games and will be keen to continue their dominant run.
The evening’s action begins at 20:00hrs with North East, another first-round winner, squaring off against Kingston. Bent Street ‘B’ will then attempt to dethrone Kanaimas before Silver Bullets take on Make It Happen. The penultimate contest will see Back Circle locking horns with Sophia Ballers before Sparta Boss and Laing Avenue bring the night to a thrilling close.
Fans can expect a night of high-octane futsal as all teams remain firmly focused on capturing the coveted top prize of three million dollars.
In Friday’s action, Westside Ballers edged Broad Street 3-2 in extra time after regulation ended in a 1-1 stalemate. Kingston then delivered a commanding 5-2 victory over Stevedore, highlighted by a superb hat-trick from Ron Abrams in the 5th, 12th and 23rd minutes. Ronaldo Abrams opened the scoring in the 3rd minute, while Antowne Vincent added another in the 21st. Shaquan Dean netted two consolation goals for Stevedore in the 17th and 20th minutes.

Laing Avenue delivered a dominant 5–1 win over Gladiators, showcasing relentless attacking play, quick ball movement, and composed finishing.
Sophia Ballers advanced to the round-of-32 following a 3-1 win over Finishers. Adrian Leitch struck twice in the 5th and 20th minutes, while Marlon Bethel sealed the victory with a strike in the 28th minute. Malcolm Roach had briefly equalised in the 8th minute.
In other results, Melanie defeated Street Vibes 3-1, Laing Avenue dominated Gladiators 5-1 with Makhi Adams firing a brilliant hat-trick, and Albouystown ‘A’ were overwhelmed 6-0 by Strabroek Ballers.
The schools’ round-robin segment of the championship will also continue today at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall from 11:00hrs with six fixtures on the slate. Carmel will take on West Minister, Charlestown will battle St. Joseph’s High, West Demerara face Bishop’s High, VYC Academy meet New Central High, Cummings Lodge oppose Annandale, and Hope Secondary test Lodge.
The tournament resumes on Thursday, December 18, with additional senior and schoolboys’ matches.
