Kaieteur Sports – Guyana Harpy Eagles were again robbed of a possible win when rain interrupted the final lap versus the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, who got the win by 6 runs via DLS last night at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy Ground.
The Red Force trailed by 91 when rain arrived but were 6 runs ahead based on the Duckworth/Lewis System, thus giving them the edge.
It was the third time this season that rain played the deciding factor after Guyana imploded batting first after staging a tremendous recovery from 54-5 in the 16th over, to end strongly on 196 all out after 40.3 overs.
A robust knock of 65 off 58 balls from deputy Gudakesh Motie coupled with contributions from all-rounders Keemo Paul (39) and Ronaldo Alimohamed (25), helped the Eagles finish respectably.
The Red Force bowling unit did a great job initially, before allowing the Eagles lower-order to stage a fightback.
Veteran seamer Terrance Hinds (3-18) and Ricky Jaipaul (3-29) led the attack, with help from four other bowlers who returned a wicket each.
Spinners Motie (1-8), Junior Sinclair (2-21) and medium-pacer Alimohamed (1-23) were the wicket-takers for the Eagles.
The Eagles ripped out the Red Force’s top-order of Cephas Cooper (12), Joshua Da Silva (11) and Jason Mohammed (15).
At the crease, Jyd Goolie (29*) and opener Tion Webster (31*) steadied the ship as they took the score to 106-4 when rain arrived.
Harpy Eagles misfiring early on set them back, as half-centurions from the first game; Raymond Perez (11), captain Matthew Nandu (2) and Kevlon Anderson (2) failed to leave an imprint this time around.
Kemol Savory (20) hit a six and a four while Mavindra Dindyal (1) went cheaply, as the Eagles lost the majority of their primary scorers with not enough runs on the board.
Alimohamed’s time in the middle yielded 3 fours and a six before the fightback from Motie and others aided Guyana’s push to a psychologically defendable score.
Motie showed his international experience, smashing six fours and 3 sixes as he sped to his fifty, with support from Paul who dealt primarily in sixes; smashing three.
All-rounder Sinclair scored a boundary-less 17 to help seal off the innings for Guyana.
Meanwhile, Barbados Pride beat Leeward Hurricanes by 7 wickets while the Windward Volcanoes and Jamaica Scorpions saw their match being abandoned without a ball being bowled.
