Slingerz FC to hoist Elite League trophy tonight

Kaieteur Sports – The curtains will come down on the GFF Elite League tonight, with Slingerz Football Club set to officially lift the championship trophy after a dominant and stylish campaign that has redefined the local football landscape.
Under the guidance of Head Coach Jamaal Shabazz, Slingerz FC have not only reclaimed their place at the summit of Guyanese football but have done so with authority, boasting 16 wins and one draw from 17 matches.
Slingerz FC will lift the Elite League trophy tonight for the second time (GFF/Elite League photo).
Their blend of discipline, creativity, and attacking flair has set a new benchmark for professionalism and consistency in the league.
Slingerz’ investment in quality players, including regional standouts has paid off handsomely, with the club’s structure and style of play, characterized by fluid passing, intelligent movement, and high pressing, reflect Shabazz’ tactical influence and vision.
Tonight, Slingerz FC will look to close out their campaign unbeaten when they face last season’s champions and long-time rivals, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.
Though the title is already secured, Slingerz will want to assert their dominance with another three points and complete their season in perfect fashion.
The GDF, meanwhile, have everything to play for.
Sitting on 38 points, just one ahead of the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the soldiers must win to guarantee second place.

Any slip-up could open the door for Police, who face Den Amstel FC in the opening fixture at 6:30 pm. A victory for GPF, coupled with a GDF loss, would see the lawmen finish runners-up.
When these two heavyweights last met, Slingerz edged GDF 1–0, courtesy of a clinical finish from Jamaican Kemar Beckford, one of several players who have thrived under Shabazz’ system.
Coach Shabazz described tonight’s clash as a “treat for the fans,” praising both clubs for their work ethic and commitment to raising the standard of the local game.
As the season wraps up, Slingerz FC’s victory marks a return to glory for the Vergenoegen-based side, champions in the inaugural Elite League season six years ago, and a reminder of what vision, investment, and sound football philosophy can achieve.
