Kaieteur News – Dem boys seh when yuh see crowd at a political rally nowadays, don’t fool yuhself and believe is all de people from de same village or de same ward. No bai, de PPP gat a special import-export system fuh supporters. Is like CARICOM Single Market and Economy—supporters free to move from Berbice to Bartica, Essequibo to East Ruimveldt.
One man tell dem boys he see he neighbour at three different rallies. First night he was in Albion waving flag like he born and bred Berbician. Next night, de same man in Bath like he is a West Berbice. By Friday, de man deh in Linden bawling “One Guyana!” louder than de DJ. De crowd get recycle faster than plastic bottle. Dem PPP strategists smarter than people think. Dem don’t wait pun local turnout. Dem busload supporters from every direction. A minibus line up look like Route 42, 44, 45 and 48 join together fuh one destination—de rally ground. Some people get transport, t-shirt, lil food box, and a cool drink. Dem boys seh it sound more like a day tour package than politics.
Now, opposition deh crying. Dem seh is unfair fuh bring supporters from all over. But dem boys seh, since when politics fair? If you lef it to just local turnout, half dem meetings gon look like domino match under a streetlight.
That is why is hard to judge who really got support where. You see a big rally in Parika, yuh can’t sure if is Parika people, or if is minibus full of Canje, Bush Lot, and Mahaica. Yuh see a sea of red in Georgetown, you got to ask if de crowd come from de city or if dem just drop off from Timehri Airport.
Dem boys seh is election season—crowd politics is crowd business. And de PPP always know how fuh fetch crowd. Whether is real love or real transport, dat is another story.
