Kaieteur Sports – Due to unforeseen circumstances, the 2025 Deputy Mayor’s Cup Seven-a-Side Inter-Ward/Village Football Tournament “Night of Finals” has been shifted to Wednesday, August 27, instead of the previously advertised August 22 date.
The announcement was made yesterday, following weather updates and venue availability, which prompted tournament organiser Lennox Arthur to reschedule the event.
The competition has reached its decisive stage after three nights of relentless football action. Bent Street has dominated with convincing wins against tough opponents, while Back Circle clawed their way into the quarterfinals with hard-fought victories. Stabroek Ballers, Uitvlugt, Soesdyke, and Pele have also impressed with aggressive play and well-earned results. Meanwhile, other teams competing for the title are Albouystown and Liliendaal.
From an original 32 teams, the field is now narrowed to the final eight, each bringing its own style and hunger for the title. Over $1.1 million in cash and prizes will be up for grabs on August 27, with the champions set to walk away with $500,000, hampers courtesy of longtime sponsor Rick and Sari Enterprise, and the championship trophy.
Runners-up will also be rewarded: second place earns $300,000, third $200,000, and fourth $100,000. In addition, the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) will receive a brand-new motorcycle, donated by Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken. Assistant Commissioner Errol Watts and Deputy Commissioner Ravindrauth Budhram have also contributed by sponsoring trophies for the Most Disciplined Team and the Highest Goal Scorer.
The tournament will climax next Wednesday at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary, Kingston, Georgetown. The night will feature four quarterfinals, followed by two semifinals, leading to the much-anticipated final showdown. Kick-off time is set for 7:00 p.m., with organisers promising an exhilarating evening of football.
