Kaieteur Sports – The Guyana Amazon Warriors will get their season going in this year’s Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) when they face the home team St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots tonight from 19:00h at Warner Park.
Captain Imran Tahir at 45, remains the tactical leader and among the leading bowlers over the years, barring injury his presence should play into its usually fruitful outcome.
With Shimron Hetmyer, Romario Shepherd, the team’s finisher with the bat, the in-form Shai Hope who had 481 runs in CPL 2024, along with overseas batters in Moeen Ali & Glenn Phillips, the Warriors will be one of the more dangerous batting teams this season.
Bowling-wise, the former champs also have one of the better options in that department with stars like Shamar Joseph, Keemo Paul, Dwaine Pretorius and Shepherd leading the pace attack.
Spinners Tahir, Gudakesh Motie and Hasan Khan will fancy their selective reliance on each other.
The Patriots on the other hand, can turn things up quickly with a dangerous batting order featuring South African Rilee Rossouw, the classy Alick Athanaze, Mikyle Louis, Kyle Mayers, Andre Fletcher, Evin Lewis to name a few.
St. Kitts can also match the Warriors in the bowling section, having Guyana Harpy Eagles spinner Ashmead Nedd, Jeremiah Louis, Dominic Drakes, Afghan left-arm spinner Waqar Salamkheil being among some of the options available to new skipper Jason Holder, who will be a key figure with bat and ball.
A fresh Guyana playing their first match will be looking to take full advantage of the Patriots who will be playing their second game having opened this year’s competition in last night’s first match. (Clifton Ross)
