Kaieteur Sports – The road to glory narrows as the Deputy Mayor’s Cup Inter-Ward Seven-a-Side Knockout Football Tournament returns to the Eve Leary Ground tomorrow, with the final 16 teams battling for a coveted place in the quarterfinals.
From an opening roster of 32 teams just last Friday, the tournament has delivered high-octane clashes, dramatic finishes, and electric village pride.
Now, Pouderoyen, Pele, Mocha, Stabroek Ballers, Bent Street ‘A’ & ‘B’, Police, Back Circle, Albouystown, Madrid, Liliendaal, Stewartville, Uitvlugt, Eagles, Soesdyke, and Gladiators are the last ones standing—each hungry for victory.
The Stakes: A share of $1.5 million in cash and prizes. The champions will pocket $500,000 in cash as well as a Ricks and Sari hamper. Runners-up will not leave empty handed, they are set to walk away with second place prize totaling $300,000 along with Ricks and Sari hampers, third place finishers will get a chance to secure $200,000, and fourth place $100,000, all with trophies in tow.
Special awards are also up for grabs, including a brand-new motorcycle for the MVP (courtesy of Top COP Clifton Hicken), the Most Disciplined Team will receive a trophy compliments of Assistant Commissioner Errol Watts, while the tournament’s Top Goal Scorer will be presented with Acting COP Ravindrauth Budhram trophy.
Tomorrow’s fixtures includes; Pouderoyen taking on Liliendaal in the opening clash at 6:00pm, followed by Pele squaring off against Madrid. Mocha will then battle Albouystown for a place in the quarterfinals, while Stabroek Ballers will face Stewartville in match #4. Bent Street ‘B’ is set to meet Uitvlugt, while Bent Street ‘A’ will go up against Eagles. Police FC will lock horns with Soesdyke before the evening closes with Back Circle ‘B’ testing their skills against Gladiators in the final bid for a quarterfinal spot.
With Ricks & Sari, Busta, Lennox Cush, Brian Tiwari, Gafoor & Sons, Toolsie Persaud and Sons, and E-Net powering the spectacle, the stage is set for an unforgettable night.
Tomorrow, expect nothing less than fierce tackles, flashing boots, and celebrations echoing deep into Georgetown. The quarterfinal dream is just one win away. Meanwhile, the 2025 Deputy Mayor’s Cup champions will be crowned on Friday (August 22) at the same venue. Be a part of the action.
