Kaieteur News – Businessman Joshua Taylor, the 24-year-old man who died while on a shooting spree at Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, died from blunt trauma to the head, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) said on Friday.
In a statement, the GPF said that a post-mortem examination (PME) was performed on Taylor’s body by Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh at the Georgetown Public Hospital’s Mortuary.
“The cause of death was given as ‘???????????????????? ???????????????????????? ???????? ???????????? ????????????????’. Doctor Singh opined that it could have been caused either by a fall or a hit. He said the brain was swollen which could also be caused by the use of Drugs. A sample was taken from the body for a Toxicology Test to be done.”
Further, police said that no gunshot wounds were on Taylor’s body nor any signs of strangulation.
“The body was handed over to the relatives for burial/cremation. It is significant to note that there was ???????? ???????????????????????????? ???????????????????????? ???????? ???????????? ???????????????? ???????? ???????????????????????? as was erroneously reported by a few news outlets,” the statement added.
Before the PME, Taylor’s body was identified by his mother Annette Taylor, a 51-year-old businesswoman and his brother Alec Taylor, a 27-year-old businessman. The PME was witnessed by a Detective Woman Sergeant and a Senior Superintendent of Police.
Meanwhile, police said that based on information provided by a main civilian witness in the case, Taylor was attempting to climb an iron gate, which is about seven feet high, and his ‘pants foot’ got hooked on the fence causing him to fall off of the gate and into the yard of his aunt (Sabrina).
“He reportedly landed on his head but got back up quickly, and a red substance suspected to be blood was seen on his forehead,” police said.
Taylor went berserk during the wee hours of Thursday and reportedly armed himself with his father’s licensed firearm and went on a shooting spree in his home.
Reports are that the businessman who might have suffered a mental breakdown had family members running for cover.
Police were called in and he allegedly began shooting at them as well. Kaieteur News understands that police were able to restrain him after returning fire.
He died later at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
