Saints and QC shine bright as U-14 Basketball showdown tips off in Georgetown
Kaieteur Sports-Youth Basketball Guyana tipped off the 2025 Georgetown Regional Under-14 Basketball Championship with a bang on Friday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH), as St Stanislaus College (Saints) and Queen’s College (QC) announced their intentions early with opening-day victories.
Saints’ shooters seal nail-biting win over School of the Nation on Friday as YBG’s Regional U14 tips off at CASH.
In a nail-biting curtain-raiser, Saints edged School of the Nations (SON) 19-18, with Izaiah Abrams putting on a gritty all-round performance. Abrams dropped 10 points and swiped four steals in a match that went down to the wire. Teammate Josiah Patoir provided valuable support with four steals and four crucial points of his own, helping Saints squeeze out the win.
SON fought hard, with Damarco Dalgety leading the charge with nine points, while Kovid Persaud chipped in with six. But their efforts fell just short as Saints clung to a one-point lead at the buzzer.
Meanwhile, on the opposite end of the hardwood, Queen’s College delivered a more decisive statement, cruising past Marian Academy with a confident 11-point win. QC’s Lemuel Wilson led the offensive charge with eight points and controlled the boards with four rebounds, putting in a captain’s shift on both ends of the floor. Dimitri Singh added six points to keep the scoreboard ticking, while Nicholas Mohamed also notched six to seal the deal.

The regional championship is proudly backed by a lineup of sponsors including KFC Guyana, Edward B. Beharry Limited, G-Boats Inc, the National Sports Commission, and Banks DIH – all helping to fuel the next generation of basketball stars.
In the other legs, Linden Regional U16 got underway yesterday, while Berbice edition is set to continue May 16 at the New Amsterdam Basketball Court.
With the tournament just underway, the early signs suggest this U-14 clash of schools is set to bring heat, hustle, and highlight-reel moments all season long.
