Linden Town Week Basketball Clash
Kaieteur Sports- The Linden Town Week basketball promotion will this year be one with a difference, as the United States-based Guyballers Inc has brought in a team comprising a number of former Linden players, to challenge a Linden All Star team on a night when ten individuals, who have contributed significantly to the sport over the years, will be the guests of honour.
The Guyballers Inc selection led by former national centre/forward Dwayne’ Brown Sugar’ Roberts and includes another former national forward, Neil Marks (Sr.), will tomorrow, Wednesday night, face a Linden All Star side, which will present a formidable challenge spearheaded by current National guard Yannick Tappin at Retrieve Hard Court.
Whether the Guyballers can turn back the hands of time and defeat this new look Linden representative side, is left to be seen in the second game of a double header feature at 9.00pm.
One can expect a huge fan turnout since the admission is free and that clash follows the first bringing together an East versus West of Linden school matchup at 7.00pm.
The GuyBallers All Star side featuring several past Linden players with Dwayne Roberts and Neil Marks their best options, also have power forward Terrence James, Louis Webster, Seon ‘Black Sheep’ Charles, Keon Camaron, Laurel ‘Larry’ Bobb, Jason Blair, Simeon Torrington, Jason ‘BJ’ Waldron, Kevin ‘Joby’ Easton and Rockliffe Joseph.
The Linden All Star Selection with the young talented National player Yannick Tappin of Victory Valley Royals at the helm, has players from across the town being represented also.
The bauxite town’s team is Selwyn Henry and Kareem Roberts (Raiders), Quincy Easton, Stephen George and Akini Wilson (Amelias Ward Jets), Jonathan Clarke and Savory (Block 22 Flames), Tyreese Arthur and Jemol Semple (Central Mackenzie Kings) and Yannick Tappin, Kobe Tappin and Shemar Henry (Victory Valley Royals).
A number of sponsors have given support to this initiative and among them are President of the Guyana Basketball Federation Michael Singh, David ‘Glamma’ LaRose, Major’s Rental, Energy Sounds, Michael Singh, Lennox Party Rentals, Bolo’s Variety Store, Lava Maya Suites, Wallet Original Plantain and Cheese Spot.
