Kaieteur News- With an allocation of $1 billion to construct and complete police stations across the country, the Ministry of Home Affairs will be spending approximately $335 million out of that to build stations at Bonasika, Leguan, Kwakwani and Ituni.
This is according to the contracts that were awarded through the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) office this month.
According to information provided, the Home Affairs Ministry previously went out to tender seeking a contractor to construct the Bonasika Police Station in Region Three. Following the national bidding process, NPTAB revealed that project was awarded to contractor L. Pool Civil Works for $79,352,627.
Meanwhile, the Ituni Police Station also in Region 10 will be reconstructed by Energy Empire for $88,258,072. These projects bring the total to $335,084,867 that the ministry will be spending to execute the construction.
According to this year’s budget, a sum of $1 billion is budgeted towards the construction and completion of police stations and outposts in Imbotero, Bonasika, Leguan, San Souci, Albertown, Beterverwagting, East La Penitence, Kitty, Mahaica, Mahaicony, Weldaad, Orealla, Ekereku, Paramakatoi, Annai, Lethem, Ituni and Kwakwani.
Senior Minister with the responsibility for Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh had stated during his budget speech that, “ Since coming into office, we have completed several projects geared towards upgrading the Force’s infrastructure including the construction, reconstruction, and rehabilitation of 23 police stations and 14 buildings of strategic importance; construction of five command operation centres, five divisional headquarters, four information technology training complexes and five living quarters, among other facilities.”
