Speaking to a packed audience at the Marriott Hotel in Kingston, Georgetown, Minister Parag emphasised that these results are only preliminary and do not yet identify the country’s top student(s). She stated that the results released by CXC on 18th August are preliminary and candidates now have the opportunity to request reviews, noting that those reviews can result to changes before the results are finalised in the year.
More than 13,000 candidates sat the examinations the minister said, noting that Guyana recorded improvement in the overall pass rates at both CSEC and CAPE this year. “It has been an exceptional year with improvements being recorded at all grades. However, as we celebrate this progress we must also be prepared to look carefully at the areas where challenges remain because our responsibility is to keep improving,” the minister remarked.

Providing brief remarks on the performances of the various exams, the minister stated that for CCSLC, “I must express how incredibly proud I am of what we have seen from the St. George’s School of Sciences. When the decision was taken to introduce CCSLC it was because the Ministry of Education recognised the need to strengthen that very important period between NGSA and CSEC and to ensure our children are continuously developing and mastering the competencies they would need as they progress through secondary school.”
The St. George’s School of Sciences was the first public school in Guyana to sit the exam in 2026, the minister explained noting that this year 99.1 % of those students attained either mastery or competence. “It gives us confidence in the direction we are taking as CCSLC expands across the secondary schools with more than 13,000 students expected to sit the CCSLC in 2027,” she mentioned.
In relation to CAPE, the minister said that 12 students obtained six or more Grade Ones in the units they sat at the May/ June sitting. She informed however that, “The results represent the performance of these students at one sitting in 2026 and we have not combined their unit one and two performances.”
For CSEC, Minister Parag said that the ministry requested a list of the candidates who secured Grade Ones in eight or more subjects and in response, CXC delivered a list of 264 candidates. “Of the 264 candidates that secured eight or more passes, an impressive 78 candidates secured 12 or more Grade Ones. This represents a significant increase from 2025 when 59 candidates achieved 12 or more Grade One passes,” the minister related.

As she congratulate students, teachers and parents on the tremendous achievement, in her message to students the minister encouraged that they continue to pursue their education and build their skills and take advantage of the resources available to them either through GOAL initiative, the University of Guyana, the Nursing School or any of the technical institutions which she said are all free.
“To all students, to those of you who have now completed your secondary education, I want you to understand that you have completed one level. The Guyana that is developing before us needs you to continue learning, training, and continue building your skills,” she expressed.
The minister continued, “Be hungry about education that is what I will tell you. We often say that education will open doors but it is not merely a metaphor. Education creates real opportunities, changes the choices available to you and gives you greater power over the direction of your life,” she told the students.
Further, in her message to those students who may be disappointed with their results, she noted that this is not the end of their journey, “I want you to remember you have the opportunity to go again, try again, and make use of the many resources made available to you.”
Extending congratulations to the students, President Irfaan Ali on his Facebook page wrote, “As you celebrate this important milestone, I encourage you to remain focused, ambitious and committed to reaching your full potential. This achievement is not the end, but the beginning of another exciting chapter. Continue building on the knowledge, skills, and values you have gained, and use them as a strong foundation for the many opportunities and successes ahead.”
