(Kaieteur News) – A leadership team from the Guyana Power and Light Incorporated (GPL) visited the Skeldon Energy Inc (SEI), following its acquisition of the company from the National Industrial and Commercial Investments Limited (NICIL).
The team included leader of GPL’s management committee, Mr. Kesh Nandlall; director, Mr. Gary Hall; and GPL Berbice Zone Manager, Mr. Ravindra Jagnanan.

Team Leader of GPL’s Management Committee, Mr. Kesh Nandlall; Director, Mr. Gary Hall, GPL Berbice Zone Manager, Mr. Ravindra Jagnanan and other members of the team during the visit.
In a statement Wednesday, the power company said, “The acquisition forms part of the Government of Guyana’s efforts to consolidate operations and achieve greater cost efficiencies in the energy sector. Cabinet approved GPL’s acquisition of the 55.5 per cent shareholding in SEI previously owned by the National Industrial and Commercial Investments Limited (NICIL). Additionally, GPL already owned 44.5 per cent shareholding in SEI.”
Currently SEI operates a 10MW engine that contributes electricity to the national grid, therefore supporting GPL’s overall generation capacity and electricity supply. The delegation during the visit toured the facility, and met with the 49 employees of SEI to discuss how they will transition and further be integrated into the operations of GPL.
Nandlall assured the employees that no jobs will be lost due to the transition, emphasising that the acquisition will create opportunities for professional growth and development within the company. Employees will also benefit from training and upskilling opportunities in power generation, transmission and distribution (T&D) and administrative areas, allowing them to broaden their competencies and contribute to GPL’s wider operations.
GPL has also committed to ensuring a smooth transition, noting that operational efficiencies will be maximised, strengthening the workforce and enhancing the reliability of electrical service across the country.
