Kaieteur Sports – President of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), Bissoondyal Singh, paid a visit to his national U17 team yesterday as they prepare for their campaign in next week’s start to the 2024 CWI Rising Stars 50-Over Championships.
The GCB president paid a courtesy visit to the Chetram Singh Indoor Facility at LBI where he met with national head coach Ameer Rahaman and the young squad.
Singh engaged with the players who had been encamped as they got themselves fine-tuned ahead of Sunday’s departure for Trinidad and Tobago, where they will look to return home with both or either of the 50-Over and 2-Day titles in their possession.

National U17 Coach Ameer Rahaman said his team had a solid encampment period ahead of the upcoming CWI Rising Stars tournament.
The team underwent lots of work, being put in across the respective areas as they played a few simulation games while focusing on their physical development among other aspects of mental and physical preparation.
“The camp was good, we were able to do fitness assessments, ground works, 2-Day matches where we implemented the points system and bonus points system to get the boys in the frame of mind of what is required of them in the tournament,” outlined Coach Rahaman.
Rahaman thanked GCB president Singh and Harpy Eagles /West Indies all-rounder Kevin Sinclair for showing their support to the players while individually taking time to engage with the players on various levels.
The U19 quartet of Jonathan Van Lange, Gulcharan Chulai Riyad Latiff and Rampersaud Ramnauth were also lauded by the coach for bringing leadership, and being a veteran and carrying form to the U17 team.
Rahaman overall thanked the GCB for their role in and emphasis which helped to prepare the boys for the tournament.
Singh imparted words of confidence and urged the players to give good accounts of themselves, while calling for the team to showcase their skills which he feels are on an elite level and can likely dominate this year’s tournaments.
