Kaieteur Sports – Promising cyclist Mark Lewis (Jr.) took top honours when the cycling race in honour of Linden’s former National cyclist and United States-based James ‘Joelyn’ Joseph was held last Saturday on the Linden Highway and finished before the roundabout at Millie’s Hideout.
In placing first, Lewis (Jr.) carted off the lion’s share of the sprint prizes in the 34-mile event, winning nine of the ten on offer, with Joseph, who was second, copping the other.
Organised by Nigel London, a Linden veteran cyclist who incidentally is the head of the governing Guyana Cycling Federation, the race was used to have Linden cyclists only contest the race in keeping with many other sporting events which were held during the Linden Town Week celebrations of the Town’s 56th anniversary.
London took third place, as Deleus Richardson and Garfield Lorrimer completed the top finishers. Mayor of Linden, Dominique Blair, was there to present the trophy and prizes to the various winners.
This race gained sponsorship from D. Sookram and Daughters Contracting Company through efforts by the Linden Mayor and Town Council.
