Kaieteur Sports – They are popular in the horseracing circle and also known in a major way in the motorracing arena, now local contracting firm AJM Enterprise in collaboration with the Berbice Cricket Board has put their stamp on cricket. The two entities, AJM and BCB inked agreement to host much anticipated AJM T20 2nd Division Tournament.
With an initial investment of over $10,000,000 Guyana dollars, AJM Enterprise CEO, Mr. Nasrudeen ‘Jr’ Mohamed, has already expressed interest to start a national tournament. The iniative came on the heels of the announcement by Mr. Mohamed to further develop cricket through corporate sponsorship and community tournaments.
The tournament is carded to start on November 11th, 2023 and continue through fixed games ending with the grand final earmarked for December 26, 2023 at the Bush Lot United Sports Club, Bush Lot.
Approximately 14 teams have already been secured to battle for over $2,000,000 in cash and prizes. The AJM T20 Tournament was developed to feature Region 5 teams, although one extremely strong team from Region 6 was allowed access to the tournament. AJM Enterprise has further pledged over 20 lighting towers that will be used to add additional lighting to facilitate night games.
When contacted, the AJM Enterprise’s CEO indicated, “Most corporate companies fail to see the importance of developing youths through sport or outdoor activities. It’s not just about a logo on a uniform or a banner at an event. The business community must push our young players to someday reach a national level. Looking at our local super players who rally around the One Guyana banner has made us proud in the recently held CPL. This dream is on the mind and hearts of thousands of young players with exceptional potential who is yearning for a medium to showcase their talent.
Each team will be allowed only two, first division players who offer valuable expertise and advice. All games will be officiated by accredited board umpires, so players can follow all official rules and guidelines. So, I urge all the members of the business community to come on board and let’s work together to build stronger players and unite communities through sport. These events will not only provide entertainment but will provide financial gain for vendors, support staff, sound and tent companies etc.”
