…earns double masters
Kaieteur News – A senior officer of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) has successfully completed the Command and General Staff Course at the Command and General Staff College (CGSC), Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, USA.
The officer, Colonel Sheldon Howell, was among 1200 students from 93 countries enrolled at the college for the last academic year.

During his programme, Colonel Howell also completed a Master of Operational Studies from the CGSC and a Master of Science in Human Resource Administration from Central Michigan University, USA.
The curriculum of the CGSC focuses on enhancing leadership skills, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities and covers a wide range of subjects including military operations, national security policy, military history, and joint operations, the GDF said in a statement posted on its Facebook page.
Leaving a legacy of influencing his colleagues to be better professionals, Colonel Howell was recognized for his maturity and intelligence which elevated the experience and education of his classmates.
Colonel Howell stated that completing the CGSC has been a transformative and challenging experience, for which he is immensely grateful.
“Throughout the course, I have been exposed to a comprehensive curriculum that has sharpened my leadership skills, strategic thinking abilities and operational planning expertise,” he said.
In addition, he also expressed his appreciation to the dedicated and knowledgeable instructors who selflessly imparted their wisdom, guidance and practical experiences, shaping him into a more capable and effective senior leader. He registered his appreciation for the Guyana Defence Board’s confidence in him by approving his attendance.
Colonel Sheldon was congratulated by the Chief- of- Staff of the GDF, Brigadier Omar Khan for his successful completion of the programme.
