2023 Caribbean Junior Squash c/ship
Kaieteur Sports – The 2023 Caribbean Junior Squash championship in St. Vincent continued on Sunday, and Guyana’s squash players achieved significant success. Several players, including Ethan Bulkan, Kaylee Lowe, Mikey Aphonso, Avery Arjoon, Nicholas Verwey, Kirsten Gomes, Louis Da Silva, Mohryan Baksh, and Safirah Sumner, advanced to the quarter-finals of the competition.

In the Girls U11 category, Rehani Munroe showcased her resilience by bouncing back from an early setback to defeat St. Vincent’s Amiyah Bascombe 3-0. Zoey McDonald also impressed with a 3-0 victory against Aaniyah Ramdeen, establishing herself as a contender for the championship title. Likewise in the Boys U11 category, Ethan Bulkan and Zion Hickerson displayed their skills with impressive performances. Bulkan secured a convincing 3-0 victory over George Qureshi, while Hickerson defeated Danann Lunch.
The Girls U13 category saw Kaylee Lowe’s dominant 3-0 triumph over Tiana Gomes, showcasing her exceptional talent and control on the court. Emily Fung-A-Fat defeated Jnae Singh 3-0, but Singh later made a strong comeback by defeating Barbados’ Ava Vamvakas. Malia Maikoo stunned Vincentian Natalia Olton with an impressive 11-1, 11-1, 11-3 victory, and Avery Arjoon achieved a 3-0 win against Cayman’s Diorean Lynch and Josie Thong in another U15 encounter.
Louis Da Silva continued his excellent form in the Boys U17 category with two impressive victories, overpowering Daniel Henderson and securing a 3-1 win against Jaydon Williams. Mohryan Baksh also showcased his talent with commanding 3-0 victories in the Boys U17 category. In the Girls U17 category, Rylee Rodrigues achieved a triumphant 11-3, 11-7, 11-8 victory over Cayman Island’s Lydia Day, and Guyana’s Safirah Sumner defeated Barbados’ Sarrayah Yearwood with a 3-0 win.
While in the U19 category, Kirsten Gomes engaged in an intense battle against Jamaica’s Savannah Thomson, ultimately winning 3-2 (11-5, 6-11, 12-14, 13-11, 11-3). In the Boys U19 section, Nicholas Verwey defeated Jamaica’s Alex Chin, while Michael Alphonso triumphed over Arjan Trehan, concluding the day with two thrilling victories in the Boys U19 division.
