8th Digicel Schools Football Championship…
– Regions 3, 4 & 5 continue battle
Kaieteur Sports – The eighth season of the Digicel Schools Football Championship, which commenced Saturday last, enters its fifth day of competition today, June 29, in five of the ten regions across Guyana.
Region 1’s tournament begins with four matches on the card at the Two Miles Ground from noon as Matthew’s Ridge and Port Kaituma kick off their zone then Karaburi and Kamwatta collide from 13:00 hrs, Waramuri goes head-to-head with Kwabenna at 14:30 hrs and the day culminates with the showdown between Manawarin and Santa Rosa from 16:00 hrs.
Their zone continues the following day, June 30, at Mabaruma Ground when Hosororo meet Wauna and also at Two Miles Ground from 14:00 hrs when two of the winners from the opening day advance toward glory.
The highly anticipated Region 6 zone also starts its campaign with a double-header at the Scott Ground as Canje Secondary lock horns with Corentyne Comprehensive at 14:30 hrs while Berbice Educational Institute clash with Lower Corentyne from 16:00 hrs.
Region six continues the following day with another double-header that will feature Skeldon versus Skeldon Line Path and Tagore Memorial versus Winifred Gaskin Memorial at 14:30 hrs and 16:00 hrs, respectively, both to be played at the Skeldon Ground.
Region 3 resumes with a triple-header at Leonora that has matches at 13:00 hrs, 14:30 hrs and 16:00 hrs between the winners from the opening three days and also the match that features Uitvlugt and Vreed en Hoop.
The East Bank Zone of Region 4 has a double-header to be contested that will feature Kuru Kururu battling Camille’s Institute from 13:00 hrs while Soesdyke will be going up against Supply from 14:30 hrs, both at the GFF NTC in Providence.
A double header is expected to unfold in Region five at the Paradise Ground as Woodley Park face Fort Wellington at 14:30 hrs and Belladrum battle Mahaicony Technical Institute at 16:00 hrs.
Day four…
Yesterday, the tournament continued with nine matches across four zones. In Region 3 at Edinburg, Zeeburg dismantled Essequibo Islands 6 – 0 while Westminster reigned supreme against Stewartville 6 – 2 and Vergenoegen won against L’Aventure 4 – 0.

The goal scorers in Westminster’s victory were (L-R) Teon Kennedy, Ezekiel Caesar, Ezra Charles and hat-trick scorer, Dorwin George.
On the East Coast at the Buxton Ground, President’s College picked up a 2 – 1 victory against Bush Lot while Bygeval picked up a 2 – 1 victory against La Bonne Intention.
In the East Bank zone at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Ground, Alpine brushed aside Friendship with a 2 – 0-result while Houston and Covent Garden romped to a 2 – 2 stalemate but the former held their nerves to prevail on penalty kicks 4 – 3.
In Region 5 at the Rosignol Community Centre Ground, Fort Wellington were awarded a walkover win against Fraser’s Educational Institute while Bush Lot and Rosignol contested an interesting stalemate that ended 1 – 1 but the former won 8 – 7 on sudden death penalty kicks.
